First Saturday in Historic Downtown Frederick

Every first Saturday of the month from April though October Downtown Frederick stays open until 9 PM (instead of closing at 5 PM). Each month has a different theme. April's theme was "much ado about books" and there were several stands on the sidewalk selling books and a few were hosting book signings by the authors. Kate, Sophia and I spent several hours there in the evening as the sun was getting ready to set. We walked and talked and had a great time.

.

This evening setting presented a great opportunity for me to document some of the architecture of Historic Frederick. Double click the photos to see a larger picture.

Downtown has many fine examples of faux painting. Here the two first floor windows are faux painted....

The long window which stretches between the third and second floors is faux painted....

More faux painting...

Carroll Creek runs through downtown perpendicular to Main Street. It was the center of a major flood control project over the last 10 years and has been developed dramatically. At the end of the pictures you will see some fantastic faux painting on a bridge...

This faux painted bridge was unbelievable! Even the moss and ivy are faux. the bridge is actually plain concrete. Take a look. Double click the photos to see a larger picture showing the details of the painting...

This looks like an inset or alcove with a statue, however it is totally faux...

The right side of this is real stone, the left is completely faux!

I don't think Sophia was too impressed though...
And a parting shot (Bobby will love this one!)

The paintings are awesome. You can say they are "faux out, man!". It sounds funny that your town usually closes at 5pm. I guess that is rolling up the town sidewalks. Great shots of the buildings. I really like them. Was that last shot "faux", too? Nothing like the original.
